The infrastructure of Ganjam gives us an idea, how industry is directly related to infrastructure. as the place has all the facilities viz. Road, Railways, Port, Institutes of Technical education, good Electricity connection, Telephone facilities, Post offices and Banking Infrastructure. Which are the most essential elements for flourishing of any kind industries.
The District Industries Centre, Ganjam has
come into existence in the year 1978. Prior to that, there were only 2 (two) medium ,& large-scale industries and 620 number of SSI units. After establishment of D.I.C various support and services are being provided to prospective entrepreneurs for establishment of small scale/village and cottage industries in the district. Further, the industrial policy resolutions such as of 1980, 1986, 1992 and 1996 declared by the state government has provided various incentives to SSI for their sustained growth.
The evolution of Industrial sector of Ganjam mainly through contribution of the handicraft and village cottage industry. Berhamouri and Bomkai pata saree are the major attraction of Ganjam’s handicraft with international customers, because of their beautiful fabricated designs. This draws a considerable amount of foreign exchange.
The other handicrafts that are very much prevalent in the area are the Brass fish of Bellaguntha, appliqué, Stone carving, wood carving, Brass and metal bells, Terracotta, Patta chitra, Textile toys.
These handicrafts not only serving the Rural economy but also has share a substantial part to the main stream economy of Ganjam district.
In the recent years ganjam has stimulated its socio-economic progress with the collective contribution of the agricultural and industrial sectors.
