The district has allovial soil in its eastern part (coastal region) and
laterite Soil in the west (hilly table land) with small patches of
black cotton soil at the centre and in the north east close to Chilika.
Growth of Tourism: Needs Infrastructure Exotic beaches of Gopalpur attract large number of tourists, but the carrying capacity of the destination is very low with minimum number of Hotel rooms and quality restaurants. This shows a better infrastructure can only solve the problem.
Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Chatrapur The recent investment by private companies in Ganjam shows the potentiality of the place. The Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Chatrapur which is in its second phase of making gives proper picture of investment in the region.
